THE NEW LASER THERAPY OF AXILLARY OSMIDROSIS

Abstract
In general, osmidrosis includes axillary hyperhydrosis and hercismus. Histopathologically, it is a condition in which the apocrine gland has strong maloder with sweating due to hyperfunction.
Osmidrosis is not welcomed, especially among the oriental people. It causes anxiety during social activities and brings about psychological burden especially during the summer season.
Up to the present, I have experienced various types of treatments in axillary osmidrosis: electric depilator, surgical cutterage, and excision with Z or modified Z-plasty. But these techniques are apt to produce unwanted sequelae such as scar contracture, residual odor and poor aesthetic effect.
Recently, 1, treated 20 cases of axillary osmidrosis by utilizing a new laser technique CO2 and achieved satisfactory results. The technique involves an incision along the axillary fold. The laser irradiation is effective for controlling the bleeding and for destroying any remaining glands.
This method is most appropriate for aplication during early stages of osmidrosis-puberty with or without hair growth. The advantages of the laser technique are : minimizes bleeding, saves operating and healing time, and shows aesthetically acceptable fine scar along the folding line. The disadvantages are : high installation expenses and technical expertise.
